Nail Care
It is essential to handle your puppies paws daily so he/she will become accustomed to the touch. This allows for easier nail trimming.
There are 2 types of nail trimmers. Both have their advantages. The guillotine type has a safeguard; however, the blades will need to be replaced as they become dull. The scissor type, is sharper and is excellent for puppies and large dogs. Both trimmers are available at our office.
The nail has a vein or a "quick" inside, so if you cut too short, it will bleed. Purchasing a vial of "Quick Stop" at the same time as your nail trimmers is an asset. A few dabs of quick stop on the nail should stop the bleeding. For further questions or for a demonstration on nail trimming, please contact your veterinarian or a technician.
