Veterinarians

Dr. Audet: Graduate of Ontario Veterinary College. Dr. Tracy Audet was born and raised in Thunder Bay and completed her DVM at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2007. She returned to Thunder Bay immediately after graduation to begin practicing veterinary medicine. She has a passion for ultrasound and echocardiography as well as internal medicine, and enjoys all aspects of medicine and surgery. Her family includes her husband and two boys, a senior Boston Terrier named "Nya", and a Jack Russel named "Rebel". In her free time she enjoys camping, fishing, rock climbing and skiing with her family.
Dr. Beveridge: Graduate of Ontario Veterinary College, 1984. Dr. Beveridge grew up on the east coast but has lived in northern Ontario since graduation. She has called Thunder Bay home since 1995. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband and three adult children. Cycling, cross-country skiing, running and hiking are activities that keep her busy outside of work. Currently, she owns a lab/husky cross named "Allie". Dr. Beveridge is currenlty working limited hours as our relief veterinarian.
Dr. Mackereth: Graduate of Ontario Veterinary College, 2022. She also has an honours BSc from Lakehead University. Rachel enjoys collaborating with clients to optimize patient health and welfare. She is excited to develop her interest in surgery and internal medicine. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time at her cottage with her two dogs, reading fiction, and painting. Dr. Mackereth is looking forward to getting to know all of our clients and their amazing pets.
Dr. Panontin: Graduate of Ontario Veterinary College, 2011. Dr. Panontin was born and raised in Thunder Bay and started her career at Thunder Bay Veterinary Hospital upon graduation. In addition to dogs and cats, Jessica serves all our exotics clients. She is also trained and highly skilled in performing ultrasounds. When she’s not at the clinic, she has two young children that keep her on her toes – luckily she has her energetic collie cross, "Lucy", to help herd them. She also has a Labrador Retriever named "Ducky". Jessica enjoys spending her time with her husband and children outdoors, especially at their family’s camp.
Dr. Sanzo: Graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, 2010. Dr. Domenic Sanzo is proud to have always called Thunder Bay home. After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2010, he returned north to begin his veterinary career. He has worked locally for many years and joined Thunder Bay Veterinary Hospital as a partner in 2017. As a veterinarian, he enjoys working with dogs and cats. He focuses on preventive medicine, working with families to help them and their pets enjoy life. Domenic is very passionate about his family and his free time is spent enjoying the outdoors, camping and hiking with his wife and three children. Currently he has a dog named "Harper". Domenic is also involved in various community groups, volunteering as a coach and enjoys long distance running.
Dr. Smith: Graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, 2003. Alec holds certificates in orthopedic surgery and is a member of AOVET (a worldwide organization supporting excellence in orthopedic surgery) and a graduate of its basic and advanced courses for fracture repair. He is also a member of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association. In 2017, Alec joined Domenic as proud owners of Thunder Bay Veterinary Hospital. Alec enjoys the challenge of finding creative healthcare solutions for patients and their families. He is known to love explaining things to help clients understand what is happening with their pets’ health and enjoys mentoring volunteers, students and technicians. Alec enjoys spending time with his family and loves helping his two daughters learn and grow. Alec is also an accomplished sailor and has won several racing titles; he loves the adventure of sailing toward the horizon on the greatest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior! Skiing, hiking, fishing and exploring the outdoors also help him recharge. Alec's family is currently home to a cat "Ellie"
Dr. Vander Kooi: Graduate of the Atlantic Veterinary College, 1993. She has worked at our hospital since April, 2007. She has a German Shepherd cross named "Tami", a Hound cross named "Shabby" and two cats named "Horatio" and "Nicholas". She enjoys performing various surgeries and doing endoscopy. In her spare time she likes to work on her computer with computer graphics.
